Sure, the car looks cool with a lil’ stretch when Carl used 215 tires on 17×9 wheels when sitting on a set of D2 coilovers. However, it’s also quick. It’s got the usual I/H/E bolt-ons (intake, header, exhaust) with stage 2 cams, and a Hondata K-Pro with a dyno tune just to squeeze out more power from the peppy K20 motor.

The official press release!
AFI TURBO TAKES FIRST PLACE IN REDLINE TIME ATTACK SEASON OPENER AT BUTTONWILLOW RACEWAY.
MODIFIED REAR WHEEL DRIVE CLASS WINNER WITH 1:54.851 LAP TIME
Wednesday March 31th, 2010 Team AFI Turbo is proud to announce its victory at the Redline Time Attack season opener held at buttonwillow raceway. Driver Jeremy Renshaw secured the modified RWD victory with a blazing 1:54.851 lap time beating out the competition by nearly 2 full seconds. Arriving at the track late Thursday evening team AFI was eager to test out several new components and modifications made in the off season. With the coolant issues dealt with and made anew by Goodridge and boost gremlins sorted out the car was ready to go. The Honda S2000 was put on a diet and shaved nearly 100 pounds off of its previous weight. A large portion of this was due to the new lightweight Braille battery in the rear of the car. Aerodynamics were dialed by raising the rear wing and using the Password JDM full carbon fiber under tray and rear diffuser which really kept the car planted to the ground. With a fresh set of Toyo Proxie R888’s keeping the car glued in the turns and a retune by UMS Tuning which propelled the car in the straights and kept the competition at bay. Coming into the final time attack rounds the team faced almost certain disaster with a rear differential failure which is a common problem to modified S2000’s. Luckily Ryan Ho saved the day and had a spare diff which the team installed just in time for the first round. This problem will be resolved by the new MFactory products that will be keeping the rear end together. The crew was more than pleased to be back out at the track and team work kept the car in tip top shape all weekend. AFI Turbo will be making its next outing at the modified tuner shootout held at firebird international raceway Saturday April 10th. Be sure to stop by and check out the excitement in the AFI Turbo pit area.
